Application to Person - the originator of the SMS is an application, instead of a device. A message sent from a Person to an Application is also possible (noted as P2A), however A2P is generally applied to denote the exchange, independent of the direction.

Access Point Name – this is the key to allow data connectivity in the visiting network.

Batch Identification Code – unique identification number for the SIM card.

Dynamic IP Address

A dynamic IP address is assigned to a device each time the device establishes a connection to the network. In contrast, a static IP address, once assigned to a device, remains the same.

An endpoint is a representation of a device which has a SIM installed. Each endpoint needs to have a SIM, a service profile and a tariff profile assigned. The profiles define the services and the network coverage for the endpoint.

Integrated Circuit Card Identifier – a unique number identifying a SIM card.

International Mobile Equipment Identification number unique id number of the device

International Mobile Subscriber Identity - a unique number identifying a GSM subscriber.

IP Address

a private static IP address (can be used to reach the endpoint after establishing VPN connection)

Mobile Originated - the device is the originator of the message (an outgoing SMS).

Mobile Terminated - the device is the destination of the message (an incoming SMS).

Mobile Station International Subscriber Directory Numberan international mobile phone number.

Person to Person - the SMS exchange is between two mobile subscribers, generally two devices.

PDP Context

PDP stands for Packet Data Protocol and is a data structure that contains the subscriber’s session information. A PDP context can be looked at as the data session between a device and a mobile network.

The data structure is present on both the serving GPRS support node (SGSN) and the gateway GPRS support (for SAP IoT Connect 365 it shows that the data connection between the endpoint and the network was established).

Point-to-Point Protocol refers to a transmission protocol that provides a standard way to transport multiprotocol data over point-to-point links.

Static IP Address

A static IP address, once assigned to a device, remains the same. In contrast, a dynamic IP is assigned to a device each time the device establishes a connection to the network.

Transmission control protocol is a network communication protocol designed to send data packets over the Internet. It is a transport layer protocol in the OSI layer and is used to create a connection between remote computers by transporting and ensuring the delivery of messages over supporting networks and the Internet.

User Datagram Protocol is a transport layer protocol defined for use with the IP network layer protocol.

Unstructured Supplementary Service Data. It allows the transport of small volumes of data over the signaling channel in a mobile network, however, it does not need an active data connection, nor does it incur SMS charges.
